TurnBox Knife Sharpener
  • Kind to good blades

Ceramic rods hold a fixed angle and take off only what you need, unlike pull-through gadgets that tear metal.

  • Steady on the bench

It sits flat and steady on the bench while you work, so you can focus on even passes down each rod.

  • Works across your drawer

Standard kitchen knives, fillet knives and pocket knives each have their own slot, so the whole drawer gets sorted.

  • Stores away neatly

The rods store inside the base when you are done, and it is compact enough for a cutlery drawer or a trip.

Why it matters

How the TurnBox works

  • With a blunt knife

The TurnBox Knife Sharpener uses pre-set slots in a beech base to hold ceramic rods in a V shape, and you draw the knife down the rods.

  • Fixed-angle knife sharpening

Fixed-angle sharpening holds the blade at a set angle for you, so you do not need to keep a steady freehand angle like you would on a whetstone.

  • EdgeGlide makes it easy

Sit it flat on the bench, draw each side down the rods a few times, and the edge comes back.

Why it works

Why it earns a spot on the bench

  • Sharp in minutes

    Sharp in minutes

A few passes at the bench helps bring a tired old blade back to a clean edge.

  • No skill needed

    No skill needed

The setup holds the angle for you, so it is hard to get wrong, even if you have never sharpened a thing.

  • Sort your own gear

    Sort your own gear

No more handing knives to a bloke at a shop, paying each time and waiting a week. You do it yourself, at home, whenever you like.

  • Made to last

    Made to last

A beech base and ceramic rods, designed to earn a lasting spot on your bench, not another plastic gadget headed for the bin.

Questions

Asked before you buy

What is fixed-angle knife sharpening?

Fixed-angle sharpening holds the blade at a set angle for you, so you do not need to keep a steady freehand angle like you would on a whetstone. The TurnBox Knife Sharpener uses pre-set slots in a beech base to hold ceramic rods in a V shape, and you draw the knife down the rods. The rods take you from coarser shaping through to finer honing and store inside the base when you are done.

Why fixed-angle sharpening instead of a pull-through or a whetstone?

A cheap pull-through tears up your edge, and a whetstone takes real practice and a steady wrist to get right. Our fixed-angle TurnBox holds the ceramic rods at preset 20 and 25 degree bevels, so the angle is set for you. No guessing, no wrecked edges and no skill to learn. You draw the blade down and the tool does the thinking.

How does the TurnBox Knife Sharpener sharpen a knife without me knowing the right angle?

The TurnBox holds four ceramic rods locked at preset angles inside a hardwood base, 20 degrees for fillet and pocket knives and 25 degrees for standard kitchen knives. You pick the slot for your knife type and draw the blade straight down, and the base holds the correct angle for you. Because the geometry is fixed by the tool and not your wrist, you cannot guess it wrong and you cannot wreck a good blade.

What knives can I sharpen with the TurnBox?

It handles standard kitchen knives at the 25 degree slot, and fillet or fishing knives and pocket knives at the 20 degree slot. It is compact enough to store in a cutlery drawer or take on a trip. It is built for quick touch-up and maintenance sharpening on everyday blades. It is not made for steels harder than 64 HRC, serrated edges, or fully re-profiling a knife that has lost its edge.

Will the TurnBox wreck my good blades like the cheap ones did?

No. Cheap pull-through sharpeners drag your edge across coarse carbide and tear metal off. The TurnBox uses ceramic rods set at a fixed 20 or 25 degree angle, so you draw the blade down at the correct angle every time and take off only what you need. It suits kitchen knives, pocket knives and fillet knives. Only very hard steels above 64 HRC and serrated edges are out of scope.

How does the SteelHold Magnetic Knife Strip hold my knives?

The strip has real N52 neodymium magnets set behind a wood contact face. Neodymium is the strongest common magnet grade, so it holds a heavy chef's knife or cleaver firmly without slipping. Blades sit against wood rather than bare metal, so the edge and finish are never scraped. Just bring the blade close and the magnet pulls it into place.
